Hi there,
seems to be a bad time for good news. I thought, I'd have a look for a
positive start to the day.
Then I saw this - or rather, I didn't really see anything - and
thought about writing about some good news myself - it's really a
difficult thing to do.
Well, I found two rather positive things, which may however depend on
one's point of view:
1. German media are finally talking sense: After the tragic incident
at a German school, where a young man ran amok and wounded several
people, the media finally managed to get a good discussion going. Of
course, a ban for "killer games" was called for, but quite a lot of
journalists stated that video gaming was not the only cause for the
tragedy.
It seems that some of the underlying social issues are finally being
discussed in public.
Thus, at least a first step is made on the way tackling problems.
2. Cinnamon still on sale: After claiming that cinnamon may contain a
substance which could lead to liver damage, consumer watch dogs called
for a ban on products containing large amounts of cinnamon. This
newsitem has, however, not been mentioned again and cinnamon can still
be found on German shelves.
Quite a lot of Germans seem to think that this kind of health-frenzy
is simply taking it too far.
As one health specialist said on German television: "If everything
claimed about nutrition was true, Britains would have to collectively
drop dead in an instant."
Maybe the latest discussions about nutrition and the respective media
reactions (or non-reactions) will finally lead to a sensible and
healthy development.
I'd quite appreciate any good news from any part of the world.
Anyone?
