   Check in with local newspaper, especially any area weeklies or 
entertainment magazines. The don't usually pay all that well, some may 
not pay at all. But they are useful clips if they are large publications 
and professionally run.  Basically clips show you can write (assuming 
you can) and that you can (most likely) make deadlines. 

NEVER, EVER go to a place that pays in "exposure".
    My first article paid me $20 (not including expenses) for a 
resteraunt review for a local entertainment pub. I have gone up 
(substantially) from there.
