"Child Slavery Alleged"

China is investigating whether hundreds of children, most between ages
of 9 and 16, were sold to factories in the southern province of
Guangdong over the past five years to work as slave laborers, state
news media said Wednesday [April 30].

The probe was launched following a report by Southern Metropolis, a
state-run daily, that said the children were "sold like cabages" by
their parents to gangs that in turn sold them to employment agencies
or direrectly to factories hundreds of miles from their homes.
